Mission council has approved spending $10

In an attempt to slow down traffic on Cedar Street, Mission council has agreed to have a speed reader board installed.

The reader board, which will cost about $10,000, will be placed in the northbound direction between Best  and Cherry avenues.

ICBC has offered a grant of $2,500 towards the project through its road improvement program.

The decision to install the board is in response to a delegation of concerned citizens that have spoken to council in the past.

The delegation raised concerns about excessive vehicle noise and speed throughout the district, but in particular on Cedar Street.

It is hoped the new sign will make drivers more aware of their speed, but it will not impact the noise.

According to the staff report, “excessive engine and exhaust noise from motor vehicles is currently addressed in the BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations.” Staff did not recommend any changes to the district’s Good Neighbour Bylaw (noise regulations) at this time.
