Mission Institution locked down following stabbing

Mission Institution is locked down following an inmate assault.

At approximately 8:25 a.m. March 21, one inmate stabbed another. Medical staff responded and assessed his condition. He was transported to an outside hospital via ambulance for treatment.

The RCMP and the institution's security intelligence office are investigating the incident. Mission will remain locked down during the investigation and will re-open when management determines it is safe.

No staff or other inmates were injured during this incident.

Mission Institution is a federal medium-security institution located just north of Mission. The institution currently houses 272 inmates.
