A Mission man has been sentenced to one day in prison and three years’ probation on a charge of possessing child pornography.

Sean Phillip Cooke, 37, was initially charged with a total of three offences – also including making or publishing child porn and importing/distributing child porn – but the additional charges were stayed at sentencing in Abbotsford provincial court.

He previously pleaded guilty to the charge to which he was sentenced.

Also during sentencing, Cooke received a one-day jail term for failing to comply with a prohibition order and three months in prison for assault causing bodily harm for an incident on Jan. 1, 2016 in Mission.

Cooke was arrested in February 2016 and was released under court-ordered conditions that included he not use the internet or have contact with anyone under the age of 16.

Shortly after, Mission RCMP released his photo, saying they believed he might have had contact with people in the Lower Mainland either online or in person in violation of the court order.

He was believed to have used user names such as ryeguy604, kermit1213, sean 5654, and kermit604 on Kik and possibly other social media apps.
