Mission man sentenced for violent assault a year ago

A Mission man has been sentenced to two years in prison and three years’ probation for a violent assault on a woman a year ago.

Henri Michael Swennen, 34, was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charge was later reduced to aggravated assault.

The assault, involving a woman known to Swennen, occurred on March 17, 2016.

Police did not release any further details on the incident.

In addition to the jail term, Swennen was given a lifetime weapons ban.

According to the provincial court database, he has prior convictions for uttering threats, possessing a controlled substance and driving while prohibited.
