An oil change shop employee is recovering after being pinned against a metal garage door by a customer’s car.
At approximately 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, the Mission Fire Rescue Service advised the Mission RCMP of an unfolding workplace injury that had occurred at the Penzoil Oil Change, located on the 32000 block of Lougheed Highway.
As officers arrived, a 36 year old employee was being loaded onto a nearby ambulance.
According to fellow employees, a vehicle had just entered one of the bays to receive an oil change and was being guided in by a second employee near the end of the bay.
“The single occupant and driver of the vehicle, while being guided into the bay, pushed on the accelerator too hard, causing the car to drive forward, pinning the employee against the metal garage door,” explained Cpl. Jason Raaflaub, Mission RCMP’s media officer.
Officers spoke with the driver, who was cooperating with police, and don’t believe at this time that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.
Mission RCMP has been in touch with WorkSafe BC who will take conduct of the investigation.
The employee that was struck was transported to hospital with what was described as non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
