Mission payroll rises by $1.3 million

$17.9 million spent on staff, elected officials wages and expenses in 2016

The District of Mission paid about $1.3 million more for its payroll in 2016 than it did the previous year.

In 2016, the district spent about $17.9 million on remuneration for all of its staff and elected officials, up from the $16.6 million spent in 2015 and $15.8 million in 2014.

The were 67 District of Mission staffers who earned more than $75,000 in 2016, up from the 55 who reached that mark in 2015.

In 2014, 57 staff members earned more than $75,000.

The district released its 2016 statement of financial information report last week, which is required under provincial law to include a list of employees earning more than $75,000.

The were 31 staff members making more than $100,000 in 2016, compared to 27 in 2015.

The district’s highest earner in 2016 was Ron Poole, chief administrative officer, who earned a total (including expenses) of $197,981.

The next highest earner last year was director of engineering and public works Tracy Kyle ($175,632 including expenses), followed by deputy chief administrative officer Mike Younie ($172,322), director of finance Kris Boland ($158,433) and director of parks, recreation and culture Maureen Sinclair ($152,070).

Mission Mayor Randy Hawes was paid a salary of $72,128 plus $2,063 in expenses for a total of $74,191.

Each councillor was paid a salary of $28,491 plus expenses.

Carol Hamilton had the highest amount of expenses ($2,540), bringing her total remuneration to $31,031. She was followed by Rhett Nicholson ($2,469) for a total of $30,960, Danny Plecas ($2,172) for a total of $30,663, Pam Alexis ($2,160) for a total of $30,651 and Jim Hinds ($2,091) for a total of $30,582.

The councillor with the least amount of expenses ($673) was Jenny Stevens, who received a total remuneration of $29,164.

All remuneration figures were rounded to the nearest dollar.
