A large group of protesters rallied in front of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon MP Jati Sidhu’s office on Friday afternoon.

The demonstration was part of a National Day of Action – Defend Our Water event.

Similar protests took place at about 45 different, mostly Liberal, MP’s offices, with constituents bringing a message of serious concern regarding the Kinder Morgan pipeline, which they say is not wanted in B.C.

“Our message to Jati Sidhu and Justin Trudeau is that we are now past the time for climate action and that climate leaders do not build pipelines, and that Kinder Morgan’s pipeline and tanker project violates Indigenous rights and Indigenous sovereignty,” wrote Mike Gildersleeve in an email to the Mission Record.

Gildersleeve was the organizer of a protest in Maple Ridge earlier in the day, while Morris Bates organized the Mission protest.

“This project is totally inconsistent with Trudeau’s promises on the environment and reconciliation with First Nations. Our message to Jati and to Justin is that opposition to Kinder Morgan’s pipeline is very evident in B.C. and growing across the country, and it’s expected that if Justin continues to push this pipeline, that he will pay a significant political price,” wrote Gildersleeve.
