Mission RCMP will continue road checks throughout the holiday season in an effort to combat drinking and driving. According to a Mission RCMP press release, this past weekend (Dec. 2-4) saw 1,383 vehicles checked as part of their “CounterAttack” initiative.

The checks produced two tickets for driving without a license, 150 grams of illicit drug seizures, three tickets for driving without consideration, six immediate roadside prohibitions, four tickets for cell phone use while driving, one provincial roadside suspension for drug impairment and one arrest for an unendorsed warrant.

Thirty-four approved screening device tests were administered at the checkpoints with each resulting in a pass.

Police say one vehicle approached a checkpoint on the Mission bridge, turned around and drove the wrong way. The vehicle ran into another check point approaching Maple Ridge. The licence plate was recognized with “WatchGuard” video and provided a mugshot identification.

Road checks will continue through to the new year, police say.
