Some Mission RCMP officers will be cruising on two wheels instead of four to protect the downtown area from property crime.

As the weather warms, the longer daylight hours and increase in pedestrian traffic provide more opportunity for would-be criminals, according to an RCMP news release, which specifically mentions unlocked vehicles as an easy target.

“The use of mountain bikes by our officers allow for a greater amount of businesses and area to be patrolled and in a much quieter way than traditional police vehicles or walking,” said Cpl. Jason Raaflaub, media officer for the Mission RCMP. “It’s a great way to interact with those on warmer days.”
