A stolen skid steer loader, a parcel theft and three impaired driving incidents kept the Mission RCMP busy last week (March 6-12).

In a news release, the detachment says a black and orange Kubota skid steer loader on a flat deck trailer was stolen in Deroche on Sunday afternoon (March 12). It was taken from a property on the 42000 block of Lougheed Highway and an investigation is underway.

Mission RCMP asks anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the machine to contact the police.

Meanwhile, a large parcel was stolen from outside a commercial building on Second Avenue in Mission on March 8 and a 53-year-old man was arrested for theft. Police located the suspect’s truck loaded with stolen items that were later returned to the rightful owner. The man will appear in Abbotsford Provincial Court on April 27.

Three of last week’s calls involved impaired driving incidents that led to one arrest and two driving probations.

According to police, an impaired 38-year-old Mission man drove a cargo van into fence posts and a concrete barrier on Nelson Street on March 9 before fleeing into a forested ravine. An RCMP dog tracked the driver and the man was arrested for impaired driving and obstructing a peace officer. The man provided breath samples “well in excess of the legal limit” and the incident is under investigation for criminal charges.

The following evening (March 10), police say a plainclothes officer witnessed a 62-year-old male urinating outside of his car while pulled over alongside Lougheed Highway in Mission. The man then got back into his car and began driving at approximately 40 km/hr over the speed limit. At the traffic stop, the man failed a breathalyzer test and was issued a 90 day driving prohibition along with a 30 day vehicle impound.

The third impaired driving incident saw a 24-year-old Abbotsford woman receive a three-day driving probation after a single-vehicle collision on Wilson Street at Matheson Avenue. No one was injured but the driver showed signs of intoxication and blew a “Warn reading” on a roadside screening device, police say.
