Over the holidays, Mission didn’t take a break from crime.

Mission RCMP dealt with calls about a parking lot dispute turned almost-stabbing, an assault by a man with several arrest warrants, and an escort service with an unhappy ending involving bear spray.

On December 22, Mission RCMP received a 911 call about an incident at the Junction Mall. The caller exited a store and said he observed his friend get stabbed by a third, unknown male.

Responders located both males near a bank at the location and determined the victim had no stab wounds or other injuries. The suspect had allegedly brandished a knife and left the area in his vehicle.

Police say the confrontation may have began as a double parking dispute. The suspect was arrested a short time later and released from custody with a May court date for Assault with a Weapon.

Meanwhile, in the early morning hours of Boxing Day, Mission RCMP received a dropped 911 call and police located a vehicle west of Mission with a man and woman inside.

The woman was allegedly badly assaulted by the man in the vehicle. Another person noticed what happened, stopped and tried to help. The passerby was also assaulted by the man before police arrived.

Upon arrest, police say the man became violent in the back of the RCMP vehicle. He smashed his head on the plexi-glass divider, attempted to kick out windows, pulled at visible vehicle wiring in the back of the car and was eventually transported back to Mission cells. In the cells, he allegedly threw his clothes at police and scratched, grabbed and kicked all the way into his cell. Then he covered the cell’s camera and mattress with his blood.

The man is currently awaiting disposition for two assault charges, mischief and Assault of a Peace Officer. He is currently on probation for a New Westminster file for Uttering Threats and Assault. The file says the man has numerous outstanding arrest warrants from Quebec but those jurisdictions wouldn’t extend the warrants.

In another case, police were called to a Mission location just past 9 a.m on December 31 for a report of an assault in progress. At the home, two women and men remained, suffering from the effects of what police say was bear spray.

Mission RCMP says the two women were Vancouver escorts called to the address to provide their services. Allegedly, the transaction initially went well before there was a dispute over the repetitive nature of the services. During the dispute, bear spray was deployed and the two suspect males fled the home.

No one involved in the case wished any further RCMP involvement and the file was concluded.
