There’s a new officer in charge at the Mission RCMP detachment.

Insp. Ted Lewko has 22 years experience working for the RCMP, and will now oversee the day-to-day operations and administration of the local police force, according to a City of Mission press release.

He will arrive in Mission in the next few weeks.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to work in partnership with Mayor Paul Horn and council and all community groups, including Indigenous, other diverse and vulnerable groups, in Mission,” Lewko said.

“Collectively we can work together to ensure exceptional service delivery and ensure that the needs of the community are met.”

Lewko has worked for the RCMP in Langley, Richmond, Surrey, and Coquitlam in a range of areas, including criminal intelligence, client services, mental health, domestic violence, school liaisons, media, crime prevention, volunteer programs, and on community response teams.

He earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in criminology and psychology from Simon Fraser University, and before joining the RCMP, worked with at-risk youth. Lewko has also served as an Indigenous liaison officer.

“We truly appreciated the way the RCMP engaged with us during the recruitment process,” said Mayor Paul Horn.

“They brought us exceptional candidates who were clearly tuned into Mission’s strengths and needs. It meant a great deal to us that the RCMP, Mission, Le’qa:mel, and Semá:th were all able to collaborate in selecting Inspector Lewko.”
