No suspect vehicle identified in Mission bridge crash

A multi-vehicle pile up on the Abbotsford/Mission Bridge snarled traffic for hours

An unidentified vehicle sideswiped a pick-up truck around 4:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon causing a multi-vehicle accident that closed the southbound Abbotsford/Mission Bridge for about three hours.

According to Mission RCMP Const. Jason Boon, after the truck was hit it lost power, and a third vehicle started to slow down, but was then rear-ended by another, and the chain reaction eventually involved up to five vehicles.

None of the drivers were seriously hurt, and only one person went to hospital with soft tissue injuries, he said.

No witnesses were able to provide a make, model, licence plate, or even whether it was a car or truck that struck the first vehicle.

Only one lane northbound was open, which caused significant traffic snarls throughout Abbotsford and Mission for hours.

Boon said the closure also affected the Rockin’ River Music Festival, which kicked off Thursday, as many people were coming across the bridge for the event.
