The Fraser Cascade School District 78 will not be implementing a COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

The board of education held an in-camera meeting to discuss the possibility on Dec. 14.

In a statement released Friday (Dec. 17) and posted on the SD78 website the board “strongly recommends and encourages that all district employees and eligible students be vaccinated against COVID-19.”

But at the same time, the board decided that the current staff vaccination rate (based on provincial government info) is high enough that, combined with increased safety measures put in place during the pandemic, SD78 schools “remain safe places for both staff and students.”

SD78 includes 11 schools in Hope, Agassiz, Boston Bar, Yale and Harrison Hot Springs.
