A pedestrian was sent to hospital early this morning after being struck by a large pickup truck in Mission.

On Tuesday (March 5) just after 8 a.m., Mission RCMP responded to call of a pedestrian, who police describe as a young female, who had been hit near the area of Cedar Street and 7th Avenue.

The driver of the truck was turning onto 7th Avenue from a gas station parking lot when the vehicle struck the pedestrian who was attempting to cross the parking lot entrance.

The pedestrian left the sidewalk and onto the roadway, at the same time the driver moved forward at a low speed to complete their turn.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

The driver of the pickup, who left the scene, was later located and charged with multiple offences under the Motor Vehicle Act including Drive Without Consideration, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident and Fail to Yield to Pedestrian.

Further investigation revealed the driver was not aware they had made contact with the young female.

The Mission RCMP wants to remind drivers to always double check prior to moving in high volume pedestrian areas.
