Last night’s wind storm has toppled trees, caused power outages and forced several Mission schools to close their doors today.

According to the Mission Public Schools website, Hillside Elementary School, Hatzic Elementary School, Hatzic Middle School and Riverside Technical College will be closed for all students today (Thursday March 10).

Gusts of wind hit the 90 km/h mark at the peak of the storm. As of Thursday morning, approximately 2,500 Mission homes are without power because of the storm according to the BC Hydro website. About 100,000 customers were without power in the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and North and West Vancouver.

Winds are continuing to blow this morning (Thursday) but the forecast calls for it to slow down by the afternoon.
