As the last residents of Pleasant View Care Home move out, the facility will be empty until Fraser Health determines what to do with the building.
Pleasant View residents are moving into The Residence this week, a brand new, state-of-the-art care facility for seniors and those with acute brain injuries which opened earlier this month.
"We are currently reviewing various options for the future of Pleasant View to continue delivering health care services to the community of Mission," said Erin Labbe, Fraser Health spokesperson.
The property which the Pleasant View building was on belonged to the District of Mission until recently when it was sold to Fraser Health for $1.7 million.
Mission owned the land, but not the building, explained Mayor Ted Adlem. Pleasant View leased the land for a dollar a year, and Mission, which wasn't earning any revenue from the deal, was not interested in continuing with the same arrangement for another purpose.
The district offered to sell the land to Fraser Health, said Adlem, noting the property was assessed at $1.5 million.
"What we paid for for the Welton site was offset by the sale of Pleasant View," said Coun. Dave Hensman. The district purchased the property at 7337 Welton Street last December for $1.95 million to stimulate growth downtown.
"We will work with Fraser Health to develop a different project (at the Pleasant View site), but we don't know what it will be yet," said Adlem.
Pleasant View, a 76-single room care home located on Hurd Street not far from Mission Memorial Hospital, was founded by the community and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 57 in 1980.
