Mission RCMP say they are concerned about the safety of a young woman who appeared to be in emotional distress on Tuesday evening.

Police received a report of the girl at 7 p.m. that day at Westminster Abbey.

They attended, along with Lower Mainland Police Dog Services, but could not locate her, despite an extensive search of the surrounding forest.

“We are very concerned for this female’s safety and we are asking the female to contact police for assistance to confirm that she is OK. The safety of this female is the focus of this investigation,” said Const. James Mason, media relations officer for the Mission RCMP.

The young woman is described as about 17 years old with short brown hair. She was wearing glasses which might be yellow, a grey T-shirt with the word “Dude” in pink on the front, jeans and DC brand-style shoes.

Anyone who sees a girl matching this description is asked to immediately call 911.

Anyone with information should call the Mission RCMP’s non-emergency line at 604-826-7161.
