PROFILE: James Atebe, mayor

James Atebe has served on council for 12 years, the past six as mayor of Mission.

Fiscal responsibility and accountability is top of mind for people in these tough economic times. I will deliver open and transparent financial planning and reporting to Mission voters.

I bring a wealth of experience to the job of mayor and I will continue to provide leadership in key areas including careful consideration of the downtown and waterfront development opportunities; completing Mission Memorial Hospital healthcare complex, and expanding our commercial and industrial properties. These initiatives fit into our plan to create more jobs for Mission residents, address healthcare needs and strengthen our tax base.

I supported Mission’s partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley to bring a flagship technology campus here.

Our work with the Ministry of Forests resulted in the designation of the Municipal Tree Farm as an interpretative forest helping to increase security and access to the Stave Lake area, while providing opportunities for recreational businesses.
