PROFILE: Janet Chalmers, running for council

Janet Chalmers, who has lived in Mission for almost 30 years, is running for council.

I moved to Mission in 1982 from Gibsons, where I was a small business owner.  I have raised my two daughters and son in Mission, and am a proud Nana of three grandsons.

I have worked with Mission Public Schools for 20 years as a school secretary, and an active member of CUPE Local 593.

I have always been very community minded, and after living here for a few years, I sought to find like-minded people.  A small ad went in to the paper and voila!  The Mission Environmental Society was born.  From the work of our group, we created the Soapbox Community Garden, umbrellaed Adopt-A-Block, and worked hard to bring curbside recycling to Mission.

My vision is to be a councillor in Mission and work to bring our community together;  to be supportive of one another, supportive of our town, and to ensure  your voices are heard.
