SAR dispatched to find lost hiker

Local rescue crews found American hiker around 10 p.m. Sunday

Emergency crews were deployed Sunday night to Sumas Mountain to find a lost hiker.

Abbotsford Police were called when a 20-year-old woman – a student from Oregon – had gone for a hike to Chadsey Lake and failed to show up at the spot where she had arranged for a friend to pick her up at 5 p.m.

The hiker was able to make phone contact with the driver, and informed her that she was lost.

A team from Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue was deployed at about 8:15 p.m.

They were able to track down the lost hiker via cellphone at about 10 p.m. The woman was cold and wet, but was otherwise uninjured.
