A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the majority of the Okanagan, as well as Merritt and Ashcroft.
Environment Canada issued the watch at 12:43 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.
"Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and torrential rain," said Environment Canada. "Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads."
According to Environment Canada, these warnings are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable and could lead to the development of thunderstorms, which can produce large hail, damaging winds, and/or torrential rainfall.
If thunder roars, go indoors reminds Environment Canada.
There is also a risk of a thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 10.
