Sharp eye leads to arrest

Chilliwack RCMP say a sharp-eyed officer on patrol followed his instincts, which led to the arrest Monday of six young people in a car reportedly stolen from Abbotsford.

Chilliwack RCMP say a sharp-eyed officer on patrol followed his instincts, which led to the arrest Monday of six young people in a car reportedly stolen from Abbotsford.

The officer noticed the young driver of a black Chevrolet pickup truck in the Evans Park Way area at about 2:20 a.m. was avoiding eye contact, so he began to follow.

When the pickup pulled into a farmer's field to lose the officer, a police dog team was called in, and the six youth were located inside the pickup.

The six youth included four females ranging in age from 13 to 18, and two 15-year-old males.

All were arrested and taken to the Chilliwack RCMP detachment.

The four females were released to their parents.

The 15-year-old driver is facing several driving-related charges, and also for breaching probation conditions.

The second male in the vehicle was a missing person reported from the Mission RCMP detachment, and is also facing charges for breach of probation.

The pickup with Saskatchewan licence plates was later confirmed stolen from Abbotsford.
