Snowfall warning issued for western Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford

Accumulations of five to 10 centimetres expected on Friday

Snow is expected to fall in Abbotsford today (Friday).

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning today (Friday) for the western Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford.

Rain will change to snow this morning and continue through the evening, with total amounts of five to 10 centimetres expected.

The snow began falling in some areas of Abbotsford before 8 a.m. today, while other areas had only received rain.

Environment Canada says the snowfall is due to a low-pressure centre over northwest Oregon that is tracking towards the southwest interior of B.C. by midday.

“Moisture associated with this system will interact with the cool airmass in place over the Lower Mainland,” the agency says.

Periods of snow are expected to change this evening to periods of rain mixed with snow.

The temperature should remain steady at around zero or one degree.

But it doesn’t look like a white Christmas is in store. Environment Canada is forecasting clouds for Saturday and sun for Christmas Day.

Highs will be at one or two degrees, while lows will dip to minus five.
