Thieves used gas-powered rotary chop saws to break into the gas station ATM in the early hours of Aug. 18.

At around 3 a.m., the three suspects gained access to the Otter Co-op Gas Bar, located at the 34900 block of Lougheed Highway, using two saws to get through the back entrance’s locked doors, according to a social media post from the Mission RCMP.

CCTV footage shows the suspects using a saw to cut into the ATM’s lower access panels, before removing the cash drawer and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects all appeared to be men, but were wearing gloves and face masks during the theft. They made off in a stolen U-Haul moving van, which has since been recovered, according to police.

This is the second theft of an ATM gas station in just over a month, but it is unknown whether the two crimes are connected.

The first theft occurred in the early morning hours of June 29 at the Leq’a:mel Esso On The Run, located in Deroche, just east of Mission at the 41000 block of Lougheed Highway.

A stolen grey pickup truck backed through the glass doorway before hooking a chain to the ATM to remove it from the building.

The suspects in that case were a man and a woman, according to police, and no arrests have been made yet.

“If anyone has any information on this event or observes something in the overnight hours they deem suspicious, please call the Mission RCMP, 911 or the BC Crime Stoppers line,” says the Mission RCMP post.
