Tire warning for Hatzic residents

Hatzic area residents are being advised to keep an eye on their vehicles overnight as numerous tires have been slashed recently.

On Feb. 28 the tires were damaged on about 20 vehicles and the complaints haven’t stopped, said RCMP Sgt. Miriam Dickson, adding incidents are happening between the west end of Jasper Avenue and Hatzic Secondary School.

“It would appear as though the offenders walked from, or to, the trail located at the west end of Jasper to Hatzic school, slashing tires along the way,” she noted.

The flattened tires are usually discovered in the morning, and unfortunately there is little residents can do to prevent this from happening, except park their vehicle in a garage or well-lit area, said Dickson.

Police have canvassed the neighbourhood for clues, but no suspects have been identified.
