Traffic fine money to help with policing costs

The District of Mission will receive a $257,298 grant

Mission will receive $257,298 in traffic fine revenue, which will be used to cover some of the community's policing costs.

The Strategic Community Investment Fund (SCIF) pulls money from the Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing Program and helps municipalities across the province with law enforcement budgets.

Since 2009, the SCIF has provided more than $600 million to support B.C. communities and enable them to invest money in projects that are identified at the local level as a priority.

Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing program money comes from ticket fines and court-imposed fines on violation tickets, and the amount of funding received is based on the municipality's contribution to total policing costs.
