Two athletes inducted into Mission Sports Hall of Fame

Local athletes Jas Gill and Tom Biln were inducted into the Mission Sports Hall of Fame earlier this month.

Gill has been a Mission resident for more than 30 years, and excelled in track and field in school. He earned numerous medals in the BC High School Track and Field Championships, the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships and the Canada Games.

Gill set records at the University of Montana and won more medals at the NCAA division 1 level.

Biln was born in Dewdney and graduated from Mission secondary in 1957. He began his rowing career at the University of British Columbia and earned numerous medals nationally and internationally. He was a part of the silver medal rowing team that earned Canada's only medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.

Biln worked as a pharmacist when he retired from competition. He was inducted int he B.C. Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 and the UBC Hall of Fame in 2012.

Biln passed away in 2012 and his family has been notified of his induction into the Mission Sports Hall of Fame.

Mission's Sports Hall of Fame is located inside the Mission Leisure Centre.
