______

Heavy rains are triggering landslides and wreaking havoc on traffic in parts of Agassiz-Harrison and beyond.

Locals have reported Rockwell Drive near Harrison Hot Springs is closed due to a landslide. Scanner traffic indicates Agassiz Fire Department and Kent-Harrison Search and Rescue volunteers assessed the scene this afternoon. Stay connected to The Observer for the latest information on local roads.

Meanwhile, on the highways, The Coquihalla has been closed in both directions between Hope and Merritt due to a mudslide between Exit 202 and exit 217 eight kilometres south of the Great Bear Rainshed. Highway 1 is closed in both directions nine kilometres north of Yale due to a rockslide, shutting down roads between Highway 99 and Annis Road.

Highway 3 is an alternate route around the Coquihalla, and Highway 1 can still be circumvented via Highway 3 or 99.

There are no estimates for re-opening.

More to come.
