UPDATE: Police cruiser hit by gunfire; homicide team investigating

Suspect arrested as Integrated Homicide Investigation Team takes over the case.

A police vehicle was struck by a bullet in Mission Thursday night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken control of an investigation into an incident in the 32900 block of Best Avenue Thursday evening.

Multiple police cars responded to the area around 8:41 p.m., at which time Mounties say "shots were allegedly fired at RCMP members who quickly took cover."

Police say one shot struck a vehicle, but no one was injured. A photo released by police shows a hole in a police cruiser on the passenger side behind the rear window.

Members of the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Teams, along with Mission RCMP officers, were deployed to the area. The suspect surrendered to police and was arrested without incident.

Best Avenue remained closed as of noon Friday.

IHIT, which is responsible for investigating homicides, high-risk missing persons and suspicious deaths. Mounties say they won't be releasing any more information on the incident at this time.
