UPDATE: Police find suspect in a pipe after manhunt in Abbotsford

Canine units and emergency response teams get their man after search

Police have a suspect in custody following a manhunt near the Kilgard Reserve on Wednesday evening.

Police have a suspect in custody after a major manhunt in east Abbotsford, after combined forces searched for a possible armed suspect on the south side of Sumas Mountain.

Abbotsford Police assisted RCMP members to locate a man believed to be near the Kilgard Reserve, which is under the jurisdiction of the Mounties.

The suspect is a 40-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a family member and fled into a back bush area. The suspect did not have a weapon on him when arrested, but police found a weapon in the area.

They found the suspect in a piece of pipe at the Royal Building Products storage lot on Sumas Mountain Road. He was discovered by a police dog.

Air One police helicopter and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team were involved in the incident.
