The pipebomb wound up being nothing more than a welding tip, say police.

Police had reopened Welton Street two hours after a construction worker found what he suspected was a pipe bomb.

The roadway between North Railway Street and First Avenue had been shut down since about 9:15 a.m. and police were waiting for a member of the RCMP's explosive disposal unit to arrive and identify the item, said Mounties.

The object was removed, and RCMP say it was not a pipebomb, but a welding tip.
