RCMP are investigating Sunday after responding to Swan Avenue in Mission for a shots fired call Saturday night.

A 70-year-old Mission man is facing an attempted murder charge after a 69-year-old woman was shot around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Bruce Croft was also charged with careless use of storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and knowingly possessing a firearm without a license in connection with the incident.

The victim remains in hospital and is expected to fully recover from her injuries. She alleged the shooter was her husband of 50 years, said police.

Mission Mounties responded to Swan Avenue around 9:30 p.m. after reports of shots fired and a woman yelling for help. Police found the victim with a wound to her lower posterior in the driveway being tended to by neighbours.

Abbotsford and Lower Mainland emergency response team (ERT) members surrounded the home, and eventually the suspect exited the residence with a shotgun pointed at the ground.

He stumbled and fell, dropping the weapon, said Dixon, and then ERT took the man into custody.

“The suspect displayed signs of intoxication at the time of his arrest,” said Dixon.

Police have yet to determine where the shooting occurred.

The suspect remains in custody. No charges have been laid yet.
