Investigators have identified Mission's Curtis Gower as the victim of a homicide over the weekend.

The RCMP are investigating after a Mission man died Saturday morning.

The Mounties' integrated homicide investigation team (IHIT) took control of the case June 7, according to a police press release. A man taken into custody Sunday in relation to this homicide has been released without charges.

IHIT Sgt. Bari Emam said the incident originated in Agassiz. Police received phone calls that Curtis Gower, 27, was trying to drive himself to Mission, and police eventually located the vehicle and stopped him in Mission.

Gower was transported via ambulance to Abbotsford Regional Hospital, but died later that day.

"There is no evidence to suggest that this homicide was connected to gang activity nor was it a random act," said Emam.

More details when they become available.
