The Fraser River had risen to just over 5.5 metres at the Mission Bridge on Thursday.

District officials are closely watching the Fraser River water level this week, which on Thursday edged over 5.5 metres at the Mission gauge.

"Coming into last week, the rainfall swelled the river," said Mission Fire/Rescue Service Chief Larry Watkinson, who noted the municipality's emergency preparedness committee met last week to review the flood plan.

The water gauge is located just below the Mission Bridge, and if it crests 5.5 metres, the team meets again if its is expected that the water will get to six metres.

At six metres, the District of Mission's emergency operations centre – located on the top floor of fire station one on Seventh Avenue – is opened and further actions begin, such as visiting areas that may be at risk of flooding and warning potentially affected residents and businesses.
