More inclement weather is expected in Mission this weekend (Dec. 16-19) and warming centres are open at locations throughout the city.

According to a City of Mission news release, the Mission Public Library, the Mission Leisure Centre, and Haven in the Hollow will be open to the public during regular posted hours when temperatures drop below freezing. The library on Second Avenue is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mission Leisure Centre on Grand Street is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Haven in the Hollow emergency shelter on Logan Avenue is open Monday to Friday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. The Mission Community Services Society (MCSS) Extreme Weather Response Shelter provides temporary accommodation to those who are homeless during periods of life challenging weather, which includes temperature below zero, heavy rain, wind, or snow coverage.

A special weather statement was issued by Environment Canada on Friday warning of a wintry mix of precipitation followed by strong outflow winds, cold temperatures and wind chill this weekend. Flurries are expected throughout the Fraser Valley from Saturday (Dec. 17) through Sunday (Dec. 18) with current snowfall estimates at 10 cm. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to fall five to ten degrees below the seasonal average.
