Weapons, weed and masks found during traffic stop

Two Fraser Valley men were arrested and charged in a routine traffic stop April 15 around 3:30 a.m. in Mission.

An RCMP officer pulled the vehicle over near Third Avenue and Ryan Street and found several bags of freshly cut marijuana, a handgun, scanner, two-way radio, flashlight, bear spray and masks.

Hope resident Zale Rockel and Chilliwack resident Owen Beckman were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

 

Robber sought

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man suspected or robbing Hillside Grocery store on Seventh Avenue April 12 around 10:15 a.m.

The lone male walked into the store carrying a firearm on his side, said Mission Mounties. He demanded cash and cigarettes and fled after the clerk complied with the demand.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Police are looking for a clean-shaven man in his 20s, about 5’8” tall, wearing a white T-shirt and a long brown jacket.

Dumpster fire

A suspicious dumpster fire at the back of Mission Secondary School on April 16 caused about $500 worth of damage.

The fire department was called to the scene around 6 a.m. to put out the blaze.
