Raccoon gang blamed for dozens of Abbotsford cat deaths and injuriesREAD

A ravenous gang of raccoons is being blamed for attacks on dozens of cats in the McMillan area of Abbotsford over the last two years. Some of the felines have been killed and mostly eaten while others have survived and made it to the local animal hospital in fragile health. Since this went online Tuesday morning, others have shared their stories of pets – including in one case a dog – being killed. Read more…

Thief locks self in back of van he’s trying to steal in Abbotsford READ

38-year-old man was arrested after he locked himself in the back of a stolen van. The vehicle had a metal wall separating the driving compartment to the rear of the van, where the man trapped himself. Police were tipped off by residents of an east Abbotsford street, who called at 2 a.m. early on Wednesday morning to report the van shaking violently. Read more…

Variable speed limits system coming to Highway 1 between Abbotsford and Chilliwack – READ

The installation of variable speed limit systems may be a little like putting a Band-Aid on a broken leg, but it’s better than nothing. Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz said she’s grateful for the provincial government’s announcement to spend $25 million on the congestion-based speed limit systems between Abbotsford and Chilliwack, but the bigger issue is highway widening. A 32-year-old man was airlifted to Kamloops General Hospital Tuesday after he crashed his dirt bike on the KVR trail near Tulameen. The incident is the third serious bike accident in the Tulameen area this year, a popular resort community 26 km northwest of Princeton. On June 30 a 26-year-old visitor to the area was killed when his dirt bike collided head on with a pick up truck, and a Surrey man was killed during the May long weekend when his motorcycle plunged into a lake.
