A wildfire has been discovered north of Harrison Mills. The fire remains small as of Monday afternoon.

The B.C. Wildfire Service reports a small wildfire ignited north of Harrison Mills near Span Creek.

Thunderstorms rolling through the area in recent days may have been the culprit behind this fire. The BCWS says the wildfire is believed to be lighting-caused, much like a previous wildfire near Harrison Mills – on Harrison Hill – last week. The Span Creek wildfire is considered to be "out of control" at this time but is limited to under one hectare. No specific resources have been listed as on the scene.

The Harrison Hill wildfire is still considered "under control" but is limited to one tree that was struck by lightning. The BCWS is monitoring the area for hot spots but the fire is not expected to grow as of Monday afternoon.

There have been about 20 wildfires in the Agassiz-Harrison area since March, many of which have been under one hectare in size.

To report wildfires or irresponsible behaviour that could start a wildfire, call 1-800-663-5555 (*5555 from a cell phone) as soon as possible.
