A woman charged with a 2019 fatal hit-and-run in Abbotsford has received a six-month conditional sentence, a $1,000 fine and an 18-month driving ban.

Chadendeep Soos, 24, was sentenced Wednesday (Oct. 20) in Abbotsford provincial court after previously pleading guilty to a charge of failing to stop at an accident causing death.

The collision took place at about 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2019 in the 32600 block of Marshall Road. A 77-year-old man who was walking was struck by an SUV being driven by Soos.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital, but died the following morning.

Soos drove away from the crash scene, and police issued a press release later that day, asking for witnesses and pleading for the driver to come forward.

Two days later, police reported that the registered owner of the vehicle had come forward and was speaking with investigators.

Court records indicate that Soos was charged in August 2020.

A conditional sentence means she will not spend any time in jail, unless she fails to abide by her court-ordered conditions during the six-month period of the sentence.

Court records also show that Soos was ticketed in June 2021 for speeding and tailgating in Langley.
