Art enjoyed many things but the greatest pleasures in his life were playing his guitar, spending time with his family and friends.
Blues music touched Art's soul. He developed a passion for the blues at the age of 12 and formed his first band "Young Society" when he was 14 years old. He later proudly played lead guitar in the Mount Lehman Grease Band, and then went on to form the band Deception. In his retirement Art spent a lot of time as a member of the Fraser Valley Blues Society and enjoyed being their sound technician and all the talented players he got to watch.
He was adorned with many nicknames throughout his life - the Blues Man because of his appreciation for the music genre; Hat Man as he always sported a fedora hat; and Commander for his leadership .
