It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Joel Warkentin on Feb. 1, 2006 at the age of 85 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alice and children: Helene (Dr. Christopher Zoolkoski) SIM Niger, Patty (John Coster) Sammamish, Wash., Kathleen (Wilf Haak) Vernon, BC, Barbie (Andy Paterson) SIM Lethbridge, Alberta and Andrew (Sandra) Prince George, BC; 12 grandÂchildren will greatly miss their Papa/Grandpa: Travis and Chelsea, Elisheva, Zeb and Joel, Felisha and Tessia, Jessie and Alastair and Josh, Brett and Scott.
Art was born in Dalmeny, Sask. on July 23, 1920. His career was in Nigeria and Niger as a missionary hospital administrator with SIM. A gift of administration was exercised many times as he trained Nigerians to take over the work. He worked himself out of a job and retired in 1987 in Abbotsford, BC.
The last five years were spent in Vernon where he was very happy. One could find him engaged in conversation with strangers and friends. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Schubert Centre, Old Age Pensioners #6, and Okanagan Senior's Retreat.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 3908 27th St., Vernon on Tues., Feb. 7, 2006, 1:00 pm with Rev. Dan Head and Rev. C. Dwain Holsapple officiating.
