March 24, 1927 - March 9, 2007Â
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald on Friday, March 9, 2007 after a short battle with cancer. He was a devoted and very loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 55 years, Louise; his children: Gail, Lynda, Mark (Kelly), Pamela (David), Donald, and Russell; his grandchildren: Mark, Caroline, David, William, Tracey-Lynne, Donald, Sabrina, Tammy, Brigette, and Kara; his sister Jane, and brother Herb.
Don was born in Abbotsford, BC. His family homesteaded the property that later became Mill Lake Park in 1958. Don served with the 28th Canadian Armoured Regiment in Europe in World
War II.
Don was a member of the War Amps of Canada and served on the National Council. He was involved, for many years, with the War Amps CHAMP Program for children. He passionately advocated for and assisted many war veterans and civilian amputees.
Don will be remembered as a man larger than life with a quick wit, a brilliant mind and a great heart. He will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Don's life will be held at Avalon Surrey Funeral Home, 13288 - 108 Ave., Surrey, BC on Saturday, March 17 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fraser Valley Humane Society, 33103 North Railway Ave., Mission, BC V2V 1E3.
