July 15, 1947 - May 6, 2021
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our loving father, Dwayne Haffner. Dad passed away peacefully at Langley Memorial Hospital on the morning of May 6.
Born in Innisfail, Alberta, to Lola Reeves and John Haffner, his family moved to Mission in the early 1950's. His younger brother, Gerald, tragically passed away at the age of 4. He lived with his parents on Cherry Street, and attended E.S. Richards Elementary and Mission Secondary schools.
Graduating high school in the class of '65, he went to UBC where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science. He worked several jobs in his young adult years, before beginning as an accountant for Watkins Sawmills in 1983 where he stayed until his retirement in 2008.
Dad lived most of his life in the Fraser Valley, and had two children, born '84 and '87. Dad was an active member of the West Heights Scouts for many years between 1989 and 2000, and was a big fan of most all sporting events, especially the BC high school basketball leagues. A basketball and baseball player in his youth, he later became an avid golfer for many decades until back injury prevented him from playing any longer.
Dad was a big film and music enthusiast, and took interest in a variety of topics, especially his family history, science, politics, and history.
He is predeceased by his father John, mother Lola, and brothers Gerald and Dan (Banaschek). He is survived by his children Gerald and Jaclyn, partner Diane, and sister-in-law Janice.
