November 30, 1925 - December 14, 2019
It is with both sadness and thankfulness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elisabeth Sakali on December 14, 2019 at the age of 94. We have lost a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a great-great-grandmother and a friend to many. Elisabeth passed from this world in Abbotsford at the Menno Hospital but was a long-term resident of Mission, residing there since 1953.
Elisabeth is predeceased by her parents, her siblings, her son Steve Sakali and her son-in-law Dick Enns. Left to mourn her passing are her three surviving children; Annelie (Enns), Rob Sakali and Richie Sakali. She will also be forever remembered and loved by her grandchildren, great (and great-great) grandchildren and her family in Germany.
Elisabeth was born on November 30th in 1925 to Josef and Maria Soder in Aschaffenburg, Germany. She was the youngest of eight children and worked very hard on her family's farm until she met the love of her life, Stephen Sakali, at a dance in Germany. They married in 1949 and had one child, Anna, before emigrating to Canada in 1953. The small family settled in Mission, BC and were blessed with three more children, Rob, Steve and Richie. Elisabeth's life revolved around raising her children, working full time outside the home and being actively involved in the St. Joseph's Church community. She also impacted many people throughout her life as a long-term volunteer at the food bank. Elisabeth spoke daily of missing her husband and son and longed to be reunited with them.
Memories of Elisabeth's exquisite gardens and her delicious cooking fill our hearts, and the courage and fierceness with which she faced life's challenges will stay with us forever. Elisabeth will be greatly missed and her passing leaves a hole in our family that will never be filled.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff and administration at Menno Hospital, where mom was so lovingly cared for in her final year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mission food bank.
Elisabeth's funeral mass will be held at Saturday, Dec 21st, 11 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 32550 7th Ave., Mission, BC. Reception to follow.
