March 21, 1935 - July 15, 2020
It is with great sadness the Makaro family announces the passing of Geza Joseph Makaro. Geza (Gus) had a passion for gardening and passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 while tending to his Hungarian yellow peppers.
He is survived by the love of his life, Faye (Remple), to whom he had been married for over 58 years. He is also survived by his children, Darcy (Marcel Malinsky) of Prince George and Troy (Cheryl Madiuk) of Parksville. Geza was grandfather to four beautiful and talented grandchildren, and great grandfather to three delightful great grandchildren. Geza was predeceased by his father John Makaro, mother Elizabeth (Babonich) Makaro, and brother John Makaro.
Geza was born in Brock, Saskatchewan on March 21, 1935, and three months later the Makaro family relocated to Mission BC and settled in Ferndale where Geza spent his childhood and adolescence devotedly helping his family with the berry fields and farm.
A love story began when Geza met Faye, and the two were married in 1961. Geza supported his family by dedicating his strong set of work ethics to the forestry industry. Resourceful and ambitious, he taught himself many valuable skills and was considered a jack-of-all-trades. Geza's favourite pastimes included camping with friends, playing the banjo, and making use of his inherited talent for growing plants and vegetables. Geza's legacy, however, is the immense love he had for his family. He was a devoted son, loving husband, encouraging father, proud grandfather, and adoring great grandfather.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a memorial tribute, the family requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation: https://www.heartandstroke.ca/get-involved/donate
