SPENCE - Hugh Nelson. (Dec. 13, 1924 - Jan. 8, 2013). Hugh passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at Worthington Pavilion with his family at his side. He was predeceased by son Jim, and brother Bert. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Noreen, daughters Terry (Dennis), Judy (Dennis), and son Ron (Arlene), 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Hugh was born in Saskatoon, Sask. and raised in Calgary. He joined the Navy in 1942. After the war, Hugh and Noreen (DeLair) married in 1948 in Abbotsford. They eventually settled in Red Deer, Alberta where they raised their family. Hugh ran his own insurance adjusting business and was active in Rotary and Lions Club. He spent his leisure time enjoying golf and curling. The family moved to the west coast in 1970 to North Vancouver where Hugh continued to work as an insurance adjuster. In 1977 Hugh started his own successful adjusting business in Langley. Hugh retired in 1988 and moved with Noreen to Abbotsford where he continued to be active in Rotary and joined the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club. Hugh & Noreen enjoyed a very active social life and took numerous trips to Hawaii and Phoenix, Arizona. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
