Ian Hunter James, born in London, England, only son of Lewis E. and Jessie James, nee Blundell, died peacefully on Canada Day.
He was the beloved husband of Beverly, proud father of Christopher and partner Renee Kress, kind uncle to niece Michele Kiefert and family, and nephews Brent, Mark and Graeme Diamond and their families.
Ian was raised and educated on the south coast of England during WWII. In 1952 he became a naval cadet on board HMS Conway (52-54) in Wales and thus began a lifelong love of the sea. He travelled widely with the Merchant Navy and later, captained private yachts in the Mediterranean and Malaysia.
Following many happy years based in Mallorca, Spain, he immigrated to Canada with his young family and continued his career on yachts on the B.C. coast.
In retirement he served many local groups in Mission as a volunteer driver, which he loved. His smile and generous spirit will be remembered.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
Conway motto: "Quit ye like men; be strong"
