June 24, 1923 - January 16, 2020
We sadly announce the passing of John Hubbard Thomson (June 24, 1923 - January 16, 2020) & Juanita Alberta Thomson (March 13, 1931 - February 28, 2020).
Jack & Nita's love story started January 8, 1949 when they eloped. They lived in Lumby, BC where Jack worked in the Forestry Camps and Mills. They moved back to Mission in 1952, building their home in Silverdale in 1955 where they raised their 5 children. They both were very active members of the Silverdale Community, involved with the construction of the Silverdale Hall as well as helping with caterings and events from 1955 to 2009.
Jack enjoyed farming, raising cows, chickens, ducks and grew an amazing garden. After retiring Jack took up swimming and attended the Mission Leisure Centre most mornings to do laps. Anytime he was asked how it was going, he always replied "Always room for improvement". Nita was an avid reader and photographer, enjoyed gardening, sewing, owls, frogs, wildlife and could identify any bird which came to the feeders.
After the kids were grown they began their next journey to see the world, with many trips visiting places by truck, airplane and cruise ship.
After 71 years together their final journey began January 16th, 2020 with Jack going first to wait for Nita to join him on February 28th, 2020 - together again.
Left to celebrate their lives are their 5 children; January Lee, Albie (Cindy), Andy (Maureen), Holly, Danny (Claudette), 6 grandchildren; Jeff (Christine), Christopher, Danielle (Ryan) Keri (Zac) Jessica (Blake) Amanda (Peter), 6 great grandchildren; Kayden, Tyler, John, Elizabeth, Londyn and Ethan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Edelson, the staff at Christine Morrison Hospice & MSA Manor, for the excellent care they provided to our parents.
There will not be a Celebration of Life - donations in their names would be appreciated to the Christine Morrison Hospice or the BC Cancer Foundation.
