CURRIE, Janet M. (née Burns)

Kamloops, British Columbia

On April 16, 2011 (peacefully) at Pinegrove Care Facility, at the age of 85. Janet, loving mother of Jenny, Gloria, Betty, Julia and Sylvia; will be sadly missed by her family, sister Helen, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sons-in-laws, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was born in Beaverton, Ontario, on January 6, 1926. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Edmond V. Currie, her sister, Margaret Burns, and her parents, Elsie (Merchison) Burns and William H. Burns.

Janet loved to entertain, spent many hours creating beautiful quilts, and traveled the world. Throughout her busy life raising a large family and working as a nurse, she always found time to volunteer to help others. Many organizations looked to her for leadership, from 'Widows Helping Others' to coordinating quilts for teenage mothers and cancer patients. Having spent five years living in West Africa with her husband, she took great pride in showing her family and friends her ability to speak French. She had a great sense of humour. Anyone who met her always remarked on her welcoming smile, infectious laugh, and optimistic outlook on life. So, as Janet would say, it's not goodbye, it's 'a la prochaine'!

At her request, there will be no memorial service. The family would like to thank the staff at the Pinegrove Care Facility for the outstanding level of care she received during her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pine Grove Lodge Residents' Society and will be directed to the Music Therapy program, 313 McGowan Ave, Kamloops BC, V2B 2N8.

Arrangements are entrusted to Clark's Funeral Services 177 Tranquille Rd., Kamloops 250-554-2429
